Rapid Prototyping vs. Low Volume Tooling

Cost benefit of low volume tooling vs. rapid prototyping

Midwest Mold’s expertise in tooling, from complex multi-shot molds, to innovative approaches in low volume tooling that can compete with rapid prototyping services, provides your company with custom injection mold building solutions to meet your specific needs.

In the case of rapid prototyping, many companies find that low volume tooling can fit their need for sample parts with a more economical solution.  For example, instead of getting only three (3) SLA/SLS/3DP parts for $3,000, you may be able to get 100 parts for the same $3,000 investment using low volume tooling.

How can Midwest Mold be so competitive against not only the latest prototyping technologies, but also low cost country injection mold builders?  It is a combination of technology investment coupled with human experience in short run injection molding.

Domestic Tooling vs. Low Cost Tooling

Cost benefit of U.S. built tooling vs. Low cost Country tooling

Industry needs direct tool programs offshore for many reasons, however, each needs to be measured to confirm the best fit for your tooling needs. Direct labor cost usually separates the two options. If a tool requires a tremendous amount of direct labor it may be a good option to build offshore. Offshore programs can save 25-40% in some cases; shipping cost, tool sign offs and finalization may reduce the overall savings. If complexity, timing and size are a factor, it may be better suited for a domestic build.

P-20 Production Mold vs. Aluminum Production Mold

Cost benefit of Aluminum Production Mold vs. P-20

Aluminum production tools may sound strange to some, but lately have become a viable option for many applications. Volume and resin type are the primary variables to consider for aluminum production tooling programs. Today’s aluminum materials are far superior to years past. That coupled with a proper mold design can promote savings of 10-15% on tooling cost alone. However, the real savings in aluminum production tools is in the reduction of cycle times by as much as 30%, which can equate to increased capacity in the production facility.

Regardless of your requirments, Midwest Mold Services is capable of providing the best solution to your companies needs.
